Brisbane 2032: Cleaning Supervisor & Venue Hygiene Roles

As Brisbane prepares for the “Green Games,” the Cleaning Supervisor role is being elevated from standard maintenance to a high-level logistics and sustainability position. You will lead the teams responsible for keeping world-class venues like the Brisbane Arena and the Olympic Village in “broadcast-ready” condition while hitting strict zero-waste targets.

What These Jobs Involve

A supervisor doesn’t just manage a mop; they manage a complex operational ecosystem of people, chemicals, and technology.

  • Assisting with Daily Operational Tasks: You will oversee the “pre-event deep clean” and “post-event reset.” This includes managing staff rosters for 24/7 coverage, conducting quality audits of spectator plazas, and ensuring that high-touch surfaces (handrails, seating, and media desks) are sanitized according to health protocols.
  • Supporting Teams and Contractors: You will act as the primary link between front-line cleaners and venue managers. This involves training staff on specialized machinery—like industrial floor scrubbers—and coordinating with waste management contractors to ensure recyclables are correctly sorted.
  • Ensuring Smooth Event Delivery: During live events, you lead “Rapid Response” teams to handle spills or accidents instantly, ensuring that spectator flow isn’t disrupted and that safety hazards are neutralized within minutes.

Requirements & Skills

Leadership experience in high-volume environments like hotels, hospitals, or stadiums is highly valued.

  • Reliable and Punctual: Cleaning windows are often very tight (e.g., a 4-hour “reset” window between a morning swim session and an evening final). Supervisors must be on-site to lead the charge.

  • Good Communication Skills: You must be able to motivate a diverse, multicultural workforce and provide clear briefings on COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health) and safety protocols.

  • Relevant Licences: White Card: Mandatory for working at venues that are under construction or “overlay” status.

How to Get Started

Beyond the paycheck, the professional growth is immense:

• Apply through relevant companies: Don’t just look at the airport itself. Apply with ground handling agencies (like Qantas Ground Services, dnata, or Menzies), security firms, and retail groups.
• Prepare a resume: Highlight any experience in high-pressure environments, customer service, or logistics.
• Monitor job boards and opportunities: Set up alerts on the official Brisbane 2032 portals.

Pay & Conditions

• $25–$45 per hour depending on role
• Shift work including nights/weekends
