Consultant Psychiatrist

Location: Ipswich, Queensland – just 35 mins from Brisbane CBD.
Package: From July 2027 $526k excluding oncalls, recalls and other allowances. Includes $22k professional development allowance, and up to $28k vehicle allowance.

This metropolitan mental health service is seeking a Consultant Psychiatrist to support the development, clinical governance and clinical activity of its Adult Mental Health Service, with a focus on patients presenting with acute, complex and severe mental health needs.

This is an important clinical leadership role within a well-established Community and Acute Mental Health Service, offering the opportunity to provide high-level specialist psychiatric care, service development, supervision and governance within a normal and well-staffed multidisciplinary setting.

Key Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities
• Provide expert clinical care, in-person and via Telehealth, for people with complex or severe mental health presentations.
• Contribute to higher-level clinical governance, service development and strategic advice to ensure the service meets the needs of the community.
• Work closely with Team Leaders, Nurse Unit Managers, NGOs, GPs and other stakeholders to develop, implement and evaluate service delivery.
• Provide clinical and professional supervision, including supervision of registrars in accordance with RANZCP guidelines.
• Support education, training, clinical resource development and the local teaching program.
• Promote evidence-based practice, recovery-oriented care and continuous quality improvement.

Requirements

Essential Criteria

FRANZCP or equivalent postgraduate specialist qualification.
Applicants whose training has already been assessed by RANZCP as substantially comparable will be highly regarded.
Demonstrated expertise in the assessment and clinical management of people with mental illness in a specialist mental health setting.
High-level interpersonal, communication, consultation and negotiation skills.
Ability to provide clinical leadership, advice and direction within a multidisciplinary team.
Commitment to recovery-oriented care, evidence-based practice and continuous quality improvement.
Experience supervising and teaching junior medical staff.
