Scope Works is seeking a mid to senior Project Planner / Scheduler & Project Controls to support current and upcoming Defence, Government and national programs.

Scope Works has opportunities based in Canberra.

The opportunity includes casual, part-time, and full-time and Contractor engagements.

This role is suited to an experienced Project Planner, Scheduler & Project Controls who is either already working in Defence or have prior experience working in Defence or for the Australian Government.

Due to the nature of Defence work, applicants must be an Australian citizen.

You must hold a current or have held in the last 5 years an Australian Government security clearance, Baseline, NV1, NV2 or higher clearance.

Location and working arrangements

This role is focused in Canberra, with hybrid Work from Home (WFH) and FIFO working arrangements available depending on client and project requirements.

Key Responsibilities

As a Project Planner / Scheduler & Project Controls, you will support the development, integration, maintenance and analysis of project schedules across Defence, Government program environments.
You will work closely with project managers, PMOs, engineering teams, commercial teams, suppliers and senior stakeholders to create practical, accurate, decision-ready and compliant schedules.
Your work will help project teams understand dependencies, risks, baselines, critical paths, schedule performance and recovery options.
Your responsibilities may include:
• Develop and maintain integrated project and program schedules
• Build and manage Integrated Master Schedules for Defence programs
• Establish, control and analyse baselines, milestones and critical paths
• Produce fully resourced and budgeted integrated Schedules
• Support schedule performance analysis, forecasting and recovery planning
• Integrate Prime, subcontractor and supplier schedules
• Support project controls, cost, EVM and performance reporting
• Where contractually required, comply with Defence ASDEFCON large and mega Program governance frameworks which may include ASDEFCON & AS-4817 Earned Value Management (EVM) Standard Requirements which include producing and reviewing the major deliverables of Project Management Plans (PMP), Earned Value Management Plan (EVMP), Contract Work Breakdown Structures (CWBS), Contract Master Schedules (CMS), Earned Value Performance Reports (EVPR’s)
• Contribute to planning reviews, assurance reviews, Integrated Baseline Reviews (IBR), SCRAM
• Provide clear insights to Project Managers and senior stakeholders
• Support bid, proposal and mobilisation planning and scheduling

Requirements

About you
Typical roles may include the following:

You will bring:
· 5+ years’ experience as a Project Planner, Scheduler, Project Controls or similar
· Experience in Defence above-the-line or below-the-line Primes and Suppliers, CASG, ASDEFCON, Defence Capability Life Cycle, Land/Sea/Air/Space/Cyber Shipbuilding & ICT programs highly regarded
· Tertiary qualification in Engineering, Project Management, Business, IT or similar disciplines highly regarded
· Experience in Defence or another complex project environment
· Experience developing, maintaining or analysing large and complex integrated and fully resourced project schedules
· Understanding of schedule baselines, forecasts, milestones, critical path and schedule performance reporting
· Strong Schedule analytical, critical path analysis and recovery planning skills
· A practical, outcomes-focused approach to schedule quality and decision support
· Strong analytical, written and verbal communication skills
· Confidence working autonomously and engaging senior stakeholders
· Experience in Excel, Power BI, data analysis tools & report writing
· Strong experience in Open Plan Professional (OPP), Primavera P6 and/or Microsoft Project scheduling software; also, Cobra, ERP Finance systems highly regarded
Defence Background
· Knowledge and experience of AS4817 Earned Value Standard and ASDEFCON Strategic/Complex Program CWBS, CMS, EVPR’s requirements highly regarded
· Project Bid Proposal to Initiation Baseline Phase Implementation experience of establishing an integrated Scope, Schedule, Cost, Earned Value System processes, tools and training highly regarded
· Experience in conducting schedule and project reviews (e.g. Schedule Risk Analysis, Integrated Baseline Reviews (IBR), Schedule Health Checks) highly regarded
Tools & Systems
You may work with tools such as: Open Plan Professional; Primavera P6; Microsoft Project; Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office; Cobra (where relevant to EVM and cost integration); Power BI or other reporting tools; Jira, Confluence, SAP or Oracle (depending on the client environment).
