Job Description

Commitment to Safeguarding Children and Young People
Gymnastics Australia is committed to protecting children and young people from harm. All employees are required to meet the behaviour standards outlined in our Member Protection and Safeguarding Children and Young People Policies.
As part of your role, you may be required to work with children and young people and make important decisions that affect them. It is your obligation to always ensure their safety and report any concerns that you have, in line with our commitment to the National Integrity Framework. You will be required to regularly provide the necessary working with children and police records.
Gymnastics Australia requires applicants that will work with children or young people to undergo a screening process prior to appointment. This may include interviews and reference checks. Please note that referees should;
• Be able to provide information about the applicant’s suitability to work with children and young people
• Have known the applicant for at least 12 months and not be related to the applicant
• Be able to vouch for the applicant’s reputation and character
Gymnastics Australia has zero tolerance when it comes to abuse of any kind and will take disciplinary action, including and up to termination of employment, should we determine that abuse has taken place or there has been a failure to report any suspected or alleged abuse in line with the National Integrity Framework.
Occupational Safety and Health
All staff must comply with requirements of the Occupational Safety and Health Act (1984) and all reasonable directives given in relation to health and safety at work, to ensure compliance with Gymnastics Australia and Legislative health and safety requirements.
Ethics Equity and Social Justice
All staff are responsible for informing themselves of their obligations and responsibilities in relation to ethics, equity and social justice. In particular, staff must demonstrate at all times, appropriate and professional workplace behaviours in accordance with Gymnastics Australia’s Values and Code of Conduct.
Working Days and Hours
This is a full time, two year contract, based in Albert Park, VIC.
Gymnastics Australia generally operates during business hours, however, evening and weekend work is often required to support events, programs and member services.
Flexible and hybrid working arrangements are available by agreement.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership
• Contribute in a proactive and emotionally intelligent manner to team discussions, creating an environment that encourages constructive challenge and debate
• Role model organisational values within Gymnastics Australia and across the broader gymnastics ecosystem
• Provide reliable and consistent operational support, contributing to the conditions for people to achieve success
• Contribute to a culture of service excellence, accountability and continuous improvement by sharing insights and helping to build capability
• Demonstrate accountability, professionalism and a solutions-focused approach in all event activities
Strategic
• Support the strategic direction and assist the delivery and ongoing enhancement of Gymnastics Australia events
• Support the embedding of safeguarding, child safety and integrity activities as standard features of all events
• Contribute to annual business planning and budget development for the Marketing and Commercial Services team, including providing operational inputs and data
• Support the production of events reporting for the Board and CEO by coordinating inputs, maintaining records and helping to track progress against plans
• Establish productive relationships with key stakeholders, agencies, commercial and funding partners that grow the reputation and network of Gymnastics Australia
Stakeholder Engagement and Relationships
• Support a positive and collaborative team environment across event staff and volunteers
• Build and maintain effective working relationships with internal staff, Technical Committees, State Associations and affiliated clubs
• Liaise with event suppliers, venues and contractors (e.g. catering, accommodation, first aid) to support event delivery
• Provide clear, timely and professional communication in response to event enquiries via phone and email
• Support the distribution of event communications, ensuring stakeholders are well-informed and equipped with relevant information
• Collaborate with Technical Directors and Judging Coordinators to ensure technical requirements are understood and delivered
Operational and Administrative
• Contribute to the planning and development of event workplans, competition schedules and operational timelines
• Support the continuous improvement of event delivery through participation in post-event reviews and feedback processes
• Assist in gathering insights from participant surveys and stakeholder feedback to inform future event planning
• Assist in the coordination, onboarding and day-to-day support of event volunteers
• Contribute to team deliverables by proactively completing assigned tasks and supporting colleagues during peak event periods
• Assist with the coordination of event logistics including catering, travel, accommodation and AV requirements
• Support the management of event entry processes for State Associations and clubs
• Provide administrative support to event committees and assist with documentation and resource preparation
• Contribute to the execution of event operations during the lead-up and delivery phases
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date event information across systems and online platforms
• Support the development and distribution of event bulletins, training resources and information packs
• Assist in distributing post-event surveys and compiling feedback data

Requirements

We need you and your values to align to the purpose of our organisation and the work we do. In addition, the following essential and preferred skills, qualifications and experiences are necessary for the role.
Essential
• Valid Working with Children Check and Police Check, and current Driver’s Licence
• Undergraduate qualification in Events Management, Sports Business, Sports Administration or a related field
• Demonstrated experience in the planning, execution and evaluation of events in fast-paced, multi-faceted environments
• Solid understanding of sports administration and working within national governing bodies or similar organisations
• Knowledge of best-practice event management, including risk management, safety and volunteer coordination
• Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
• Excellent organisational, project management and time-management abilities, with the capacity to manage competing priorities under deadlines
• Flexible, solutions-oriented and able to anticipate and resolve complex event challenges
• High computer literacy, including Microsoft Office and event management software
Preferred
• Experience working with volunteer-based workforces
• Understanding of gymnastics and the multiple GymSports disciplines
• Working knowledge of Technical or Event-based Committees
