The Event Setup Crew is the backbone of the Brisbane 2032 Olympics. Before the first medal is awarded, hundreds of venues—from the Gabba to regional stadiums—must be transformed into world-class sporting arenas. This role offers a unique “behind-the-scenes” look at how a global mega-event is built from the ground up.

What These Jobs Involve
Being part of the setup crew is physically active and fast-paced. You are essentially building the stage for the world’s greatest athletes.
Assisting with Daily Operational Tasks: This includes the physical installation of temporary infrastructure, such as modular seating, perimeter fencing, signage, and decorative “look of the games” elements.
Supporting Teams and Contractors: You’ll work closely with specialized electricians, audio-visual technicians, and overlay managers to ensure all equipment is positioned correctly and safely.
Ensuring Smooth Event Delivery: Once a venue is “bumped in,” the crew transitions to maintaining the site, troubleshooting layout issues, and ensuring that everything is exactly where it needs to be for the broadcast cameras.

Requirements & Skills
Because this is a high-stakes environment with strict deadlines, the right attitude is just as important as technical ability.
Reliable and Punctual: Construction and “bump-in” schedules are often timed to the minute. Being on-site and ready to work is the most critical requirement.
Good Communication Skills: You must be able to follow complex floor plans and take directions from site supervisors effectively to avoid costly errors.
Relevant Licences: While many roles are general labor, having a White Card (General Construction Induction) is usually mandatory. Additional licences like Forklift (LF), Elevated Work Platform (EWP), or a heavy vehicle licence will significantly increase your pay rate.

How to Get Started
Beyond the paycheck, the professional growth is immense:
• Apply through relevant companies: Don’t just look at the airport itself. Apply with ground handling agencies (like Qantas Ground Services, dnata, or Menzies), security firms, and retail groups.
• Prepare a resume: Highlight any experience in high-pressure environments, customer service, or logistics.
• Monitor job boards and opportunities: Set up alerts on the official Brisbane 2032 portals.
Pay & Conditions
• $25–$45 per hour depending on role
• Shift work including nights/weekends
• Mostly temporary contracts
