Brisbane 2032: Parking Attendant & Traffic Support Roles

With thousands of athletes and millions of fans descending on South East Queensland, Parking and Traffic Management will be a massive operation. These roles ensure that everything from VIP motorcades to spectator shuttles flows smoothly around venues like the Brisbane Arena, the Gabba, and regional hubs.

What These Jobs Involve

Parking attendants are the first point of contact for many visitors, making them essential for a positive first impression and site safety.

  • Assisting with Daily Operational Tasks: This includes directing vehicles to designated zones, managing accessible parking for people with disabilities, and verifying digital parking permits or “Olympic Lane” credentials.

  • Supporting Teams and Contractors: You will coordinate with local police (QPS), traffic controllers, and security teams to manage road closures or sudden changes in traffic flow during peak event windows.

  • Ensuring Smooth Event Delivery: By preventing bottlenecks at venue entrances and exits, you help ensure that spectators and athletes arrive on time and that emergency vehicle access remains clear at all times.

Requirements & Skills

While these roles are often entry-level, they require high levels of alertness and a focus on safety.

  • Reliable and Punctual: Traffic operations usually begin several hours before an event starts. Being on-site for the pre-event briefing is critical to understanding the day’s specific traffic plan.

  • Good Communication Skills: You must be able to provide clear, calm instructions to drivers who may be stressed or unfamiliar with the area. Using hand signals and radio communication is a daily part of the job.

  • Relevant Licences: Most basic parking roles do not require special accreditation. However, if your role involves directing traffic on public roads (rather than just inside a car park), you will likely need a Traffic Controller Accreditation (Blue/Yellow Card). A valid Australian Driver’s Licence is also typically required.

How to Get Started

Beyond the paycheck, the professional growth is immense:

• Apply through relevant companies: Don’t just look at the airport itself. Apply with ground handling agencies (like Qantas Ground Services, dnata, or Menzies), security firms, and retail groups.
• Prepare a resume: Highlight any experience in high-pressure environments, customer service, or logistics.
• Monitor job boards and opportunities: Set up alerts on the official Brisbane 2032 portals.

Pay & Conditions

• $25–$45 per hour depending on role
